The place has, more than the last ten years, obtained significant progress in agriculture productiveness, but the progress has been driven by non-crop sectors this kind of as aquaculture, mentioned Suresh Pal, eminent agriculture economist and Director of ICAR-National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Plan Study (NIAP).

He was addressing the BusinessLine Agri Summit on farm productiveness listed here on Friday.

He mentioned progress in agriculture productiveness has been 3 for every cent in the last two a long time and five for every cent ahead of that. And this progress has come from States which ended up ordinarily weak in agriculture.

In Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, the progress in crop, livestock and fisheries has been six for every cent, significantly above the national progress, and not seen in the Eco-friendly Revolution-backed States this kind of as Punjab and Haryana.

Even so, Pal also expressed concern more than the slow progress in agriculture productiveness in Uttar Pradesh, which has great irrigation services and fertile land.

Scientific tests have revealed there has been a convergence of economic progress and agricultural productiveness.
