U.S. to Press China on Trade Pact, Keep Tariffs in Place

WASHINGTON—The U.S. strategies to start new trade talks with China, but will manage tariffs on Chinese imports as it presses Beijing to fulfill pledges to obtain far more U.S. products and providers.

The new initiative was comprehensive in a coverage deal with Monday by U.S. Trade Agent Katherine Tai, in her very first comprehensive remarks on trade involving the world’s two largest economies given that she took place of work in March.
