This paper takes advantage of a randomized managed experiment in which farmers experienced on a new rice cultivation approach train two other farmers. The success exhibit that the intervention raises yields and farm earnings among the handled farmers. Teacher-trainees are effective at spreading know-how and inducing adoption relative to just education. Incentivizing teacher-trainees improves know-how transmission but not adoption. Matching teacher-trainees with farmers who list them as function products does not increase know-how transmission and may well damage adoption. Employing mediation evaluation, the research finds that the know-how of the teacher-trainee is correlated with that of their students, consistent with know-how transmission. The paper also finds that systems of rice intensification (SRI) know-how predicts adoption of some SRI practices, and that adoption by teacher-trainees predicts adoption by their students, suggesting that students observe the case in point of their teacher. With expense-benefit estimates of social returns in excess of one hundred percent, explicitly mobilizing peer-to-peer (P2P) transmission of know-how appears a expense-effective way of inducing the adoption of new rewarding agricultural practices.
